Darter or snake bird. The slender snake-like neck is why it is also called the snake-bird. It swims with its body submerged with only its neck, swaying and turning in a snake like manner, visible above the water. The dagger like pointed bill of a Darter or Snake-Bird is used to hunt fish under water. A special arrangement of the neck bones help the bird to shoot out its dagger shaped bill at its food to either catch it or pierce it.
