Openbilled Stork

Among the smaller of the storks, Openbilled Storks is a white or greyish white bird, with black in the wings. It is distinguished by its arching mandibles which leaves a narrow open gap between them. Hence the name, openbilled. The bills are reddish black. Living near water bodies, the openbilled stork can be found amongst other storks, herons, and egrets. The black in its wings is conspicuous.

Openbilled Storks' food consists of frogs, crabs, large insects and other smaller animals. The open bill probably helps in breaking open the thick shells of snails, which form a large proportion of the stork's food.
